They begin with Rosh Hashanah or Jewish New Year on 1 Tishri, which usually occurs in September. This starts the Days of Awe, which culminate with Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement. Finally the joyful festival of Sukkot or Tabernacles is for eight days and involves making booths or shelters.
