Figure 2. Aluminium distribution in the white pine (Pinus strobus) needle as determined by x-ray microanalysis. Needles were 2 years old, and taken from trees growing in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. Analyses were conducted in six tissue areas (epidermis, hypodermis, mesophyll, endodermis, transfusion layer and xylem wall- abbreviations as in Fig. 1), at the base middle and tip regions of the needles. All determinations were the means of five replicates, and concentrations are expressed in mmol kg-1.
