Chapter 5- The seeds of history
We consider the approach to the environment by the Church in history, especially looking at the contrasting strands of Greek dualistic views and the more positive approach to the earth found in biblical teaching. We then outline views on the purpose of creation, the Renaissance and human supremacy, the purpose of science, and Darwin and debates on creation and evolution. Finally we explain the rise of the environmental movement and the Christian role in Cherishing the Earth.
We conclude this first half of the book and introduce the second half, which outlines the positive responses we can make to care for our Earth.
