Chapter 9

Chapter 9- Uniting together with the Global South

This chapter looks at the situation of the Global South looking at poverty and climate change on Africa and Asia. It considers globalization, debt, and the anti-debt campaigns. It also looks at economic, development and environmental approaches. In terms of solutions it considers holistic development, appropriate technology, modernisation, and contraction and convergence. To provide a biblical response, the themes of Sabbath and Jubilee are considered looking at the Old Testament teaching and how this was applied by Jesus.

UPDATE

In this chapter we mentioned that the Christian development agencies were now very much involved in issues concerned with climate change. On 5th February 2008 this involvement reached the national press in the UK when Tearfund launched their carbon fast for Lent. See Lent fast to cut carbon emissions.
